Greetings,
I am considering starting the DLP program as advertised for $200.00 and have some questions.
Besides the eight DVDs that come with the registration fee are there other on-line videos or on-line information available to members of the program?
What is the difference between the Long Distance Learning program and the Long Distance Student programs?  The student program mentions 8 lessons with Grampa Bill - are these videos?
What is the material overlap with the other DVDs that are sold on the site?  Are the Monkey forms already included in the 8 DVDs that come with registration?
One last question - Is there any written material provided to the DLP student.

Thanks so much!
Speegman.

Greetings,
"I am considering starting the DLP program as advertised for $200.00 and have some questions."
I'll do my best to answer

"Besides the eight DVDs that come with the registration fee are there other on-line videos or on-line information available to members of the program?"
Yes, there is an archive at www.kuntaosilat.org and uploaded video critique here on the Teacher Board for Distance Learning People.

"What is the difference between the Long Distance Learning program and the Long Distance Student programs?"
I'm not familiar with a "long distance student program" unless it is a vestige of the past somewhere out there in cyberspace

"The student program mentions 8 lessons with Grampa Bill - are these videos?"
Yes, there are 13 DVDs.

"What is the material overlap with the other DVDs that are sold on the site?"
We just counted a couple of weeks ago and it turns out there are 73 DVDs currently available and three more coming out this month. There is some small overlap with the Eight DVDs in the Distance Learning Course where it comes to forms mostly. All of the DVDs have unique footage, though, that you will not see on the 8 DVD Distance Learning Course

"Are the Monkey forms already included in the 8 DVDs that come with registration?"
Only Lankas Tiga is included in the Forms.

One last question - Is there any written material provided to the DLP student.
No, not yet. Other than the huge library on www.kuntaosilat.com

Thanks so much!
Speegman.
I appreciate your asking.

Art, thanks for the informative response.  I have one other question - are the videos with Grampa Bill included with the registration fee or is there an additional charge?

Best regards,
-Chris

Howdy Chris,
The 13 DVD series of the actual Guru Classes is only available to the Distance Learning People, but it is not included in the Registration & set of 8.

It is a different set than the 8 DVD Distance Learning Program, although you will see some of the forms and training exercises from the Guru Classes in the DLP. The Guru Classes are un-cut, so there is material there that is available no where else.

The set of 13 Guru Classes is $500, which turns out to be $350 with the DLP 30% discount.

Peace,

Greetings Art!

Sorry for additional question:  Does the DLP include both the American Kuntao Silat information as well as the Malabar information?  So, with the eight DVDs I would receive I could do both branches of Kuntao Silat - correct?  Even though it might be hard from me to do, I would like to have the Malabar information such as Preying Mantis etc...  I have a knee replacement and some of the harimau postures are a bit hard.  I just go down as low as I can! Smiley

Kindest regards,
Chris

Yes, the American and the Malabar branch materials are all included in the Guru Course set of Eight. The two DVDs related to the American branch are Serak and Internal/External have recently been added.

Yes again, you can certify in both Malabar and American KunTao Silat or your choice of either. Just so you know, Malabar KunTao Silat requires exceptional physical conditioning and mobility and may not be well suited to those with physical injuries. American KunTao Silat, on the other hand, has a focus on more mature practitioners who almost invariably have chronic injuries that must be factored into a personalized training program highlighting current strengths and skills while addressing the healing of chronic injuries.

When the de Thouars Brothers approached Steve to promote their arts, Steve explained to them that their martial arts would only be attractive to that 1% of martial practitioners who REALLY wanted to study a martial art. Most folks just want to look good or get some exercise; and they won't look twice at KunTao Silat. It turns out that 1% of martial practitioners often carry the scars of a lifetime of training complete with injuries that prevent some of the more athletic applications of the Chinese/Indonesian arts.

So, the Distance Learning Program is evolving in a manner which addresses the specific needs of that 1% whether they are entering fresh, without injuries, or continuing a lifetime study where the health aspects of the arts may take priority over athletic prowess.

Peace,
Art

That's wonderful news - I have an artificial knee so I'm definitely in the "limited mobility" camp.  I greatly appreciate the effort to make the art flexible to allow a greater number of enthusiasts to partake.

Kindest regards,

Art,

I'm trying to create a customer profile for ThunderRock Media and after clicking on "submit" nothing seems to happen.  Should I just order the DLP material from the PayPal site or should I try to order from the store?

Thanks,
Chris

Wish I was a computer geek sometimes, because I don't know how to fix such problems; but I'll try to get it figured out ASAP. Meanwhile you can just send the funds to orders@kuntaosilat.com by PayPal and we can get your Guru Course off immediately. I can also send you a PayPal request, either will work just fine.
